How we compared the companies

The ratings below are the average score out of 5 shown on each company's 12Go page, based on reviews left by travellers who booked and took the trip. We read them on 7 October 2026. We also give the number of reviews: a 4.5 based on 1,000 reviews tells you much more than a 4.8 based on 18.

Routes, seat classes and fares come from the 12Go listings for a departure on 24 October 2026. Some operators sell under two names on 12Go (for example "StarMart" and "StarMart SG"); we quote the rating of the page we read. We have no commercial link with any bus company: we earn a commission when you book on 12Go, whichever operator you choose.

Our take, company by company

CS Travel — the reference for Cameron Highlands

The most-reviewed operator in our sample (1,029 reviews) with 4.5/5. It runs to Cameron Highlands from TBS in Kuala Lumpur (€10.87, about 4 h 47) and from Sungai Nibong bus terminal in Penang (€8.70–9.79). On these routes it shares the market with Unititi Express, at the same fares.

707 Inc — the Malacca → Singapore specialist

Rated 4.4/5 on 759 reviews. On 24 October 2026 it listed 57 departures from Melaka Sentral to Singapore at €23.36, about 3 h 51 — by far the largest offer on this route.

KKKL Express and Mayang Sari — well rated and cheap

KKKL Express (4.5/5, 153 reviews) sells Kuala Lumpur → Malacca at €5.30 and Kuala Lumpur → Johor Bahru at €12.72. Mayang Sari (4.3/5, 475 reviews) is one of the cheapest well-rated options to Malacca: €2.85 from TBS.

StarMart — leaves from Berjaya Times Square

Rated 4.2/5 (500 reviews). Its Singapore coaches leave from Berjaya Times Square in central Kuala Lumpur rather than TBS, with 27-seat coaches at €16.11. A separate listing, "StarMart SG", sells 27- and 40-seat coaches at €22.74–26.70.

Super Nice Express — the widest choice of routes

Present on 5 of the routes we checked: Kuala Lumpur to Penang, Singapore, Johor Bahru and Hat Yai, and Malacca to Singapore. Rated 4.2/5 (316 reviews). Its Hat Yai coaches leave from Hentian Duta, not TBS.

Billion Stars Express — the most departures, a lower score

170 departures Kuala Lumpur → Singapore and 81 to Penang on 24 October 2026: no other company came close. But its score is 3.6/5 on 690 reviews, the lowest among the big operators. Fine if you need a precise time; compare first if comfort is your priority.

Plusliner — budget option to Ipoh

Rated 4.0/5 (335 reviews), it was the cheapest regular operator to Ipoh at €4.61–4.90, against a typical €8.74 on the route, with a scheduled 2 h 30.

East coast: Ekspres Mutiara and Ekspres Perdana

On Kuala Lumpur → Kota Bharu (about 9 h 45), Ekspres Mutiara (4.1/5, 114 reviews) listed 87 departures and Ekspres Perdana (3.9/5, 142 reviews) 77, both around €16.

Companies without a rating yet

Some operators you will see often had no reviews on their 12Go page when we checked: Eltabina Express (Kuala Lumpur → Singapore, €20.85, Executive), Sani Express (Kuala Lumpur → Kota Bharu from €10.51, and Kuantan) and Transtar Cross Border (Johor Bahru → Singapore, €3.59). No rating does not mean a bad company — just that 12Go has no customer feedback to show yet.

How to read a rating before you book

  1. Look at the number of reviews. 4.5/5 on 1,029 reviews (CS Travel) is more reliable than 4.8/5 on 18.
  2. Compare on the same route. On Kuala Lumpur → Singapore, fares among the 7 main operators ranged from €16.11 (StarMart) to €26.70 (StarMart SG).
  3. Check the seat class. Express, Executive, VIP or SVIP on the same route are different seats.
  4. Check the terminal. TBS, KL Sentral, Berjaya Times Square and Hentian Duta are different places — see our companies and stations guide.
  5. Compare prices too. Our Malaysia bus prices page gives the cheapest and typical fare on 23 routes.
