How we checked these prices

On 7 October 2026 we opened the 12Go page of 23 routes and read every offer listed for a departure on Saturday 24 October 2026: operator, vehicle, scheduled duration and price, per adult, taxes included, in euros.

For each route we give the cheapest fare and the typical fare (the median of the bus offers that day). 12Go also lists private hotel transfers in its bus category; they cost far more (often €150 or more per vehicle) and we do not count them as coach fares.

Fares move with the date and the remaining seats: use these figures as a reliable order of magnitude, then check your own date before paying.

What makes a ticket cheaper or more expensive

The seat class

Malaysian coaches are sold by class: "Express", "Executive" or "VIP", with roomier "1X2" layouts (one seat on one side of the aisle, two on the other) and "SVIP" on some international routes. StarMart, for example, sells 27-seat and 40-seat coaches to Singapore at different prices.

Competition on the route

On Kuala Lumpur → Malacca, with more than 120 bus offers that day, fares started at €2.61 (Melor Interline Express). On thin routes like Kuala Lumpur → Mersing (3 departures with Transnasional) there is a single fare.

Crossing into Singapore

Kuala Lumpur → Singapore coaches started at €14.28, against €11.16 to Johor Bahru on the Malaysian side. From Johor Bahru, the KTM shuttle train to Singapore cost €1.77 for a 5-minute ride.

Bus or plane on long routes

Kuala Lumpur → Kota Bharu takes about 9 h 45 by coach (from €10.51) or about 1 h by air (from €32.02). In Borneo, Kuching → Miri is about 14 h 45 by bus (from €23.31) or 1 h by air (from €29.60).

Private transfers

Hotel-to-hotel transfers appear on many routes, usually between €100 and €400 per vehicle. They only make sense for a group or a very tight schedule.

Three classic trips, priced

Transport cost per person, from the cheapest to the typical fares observed on 12Go (October 2026).

Heritage route to Singapore
€13.21 – €26.57

North to Thailand
€19.64 – €38.66
Kuala Lumpur → Penang (€9.26 / €14.04) + Penang → Hat Yai (€10.38 / €24.62).
East coast: coach or plane
€10.51 / €32.02
Kuala Lumpur → Kota Bharu: coach from €10.51 (about 9 h 45) or flight from €32.02 (about 1 h).

6 tips to pay the right price

  1. Pick the seat class consciously. "Executive 1X2" and "VIP" cost a little more than "Express" but give you a wider seat on long journeys.
  2. Check the departure terminal. Most coaches leave from TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) in Kuala Lumpur, but some leave from KL Sentral, Berjaya Times Square or Terminal Bersepadu Gombak.
  3. For the airport, compare coach and train. €2.37–3.97 by coach, €9.03–12 by train — the train is much faster.
  4. For Singapore, consider Johor Bahru. The KTM shuttle train from Johor Bahru to Singapore cost €1.77.
  5. Read the price correctly. On 12Go the fare is per adult, taxes included; private transfers are priced per vehicle.
  6. Check your own date. Our figures are for one departure day; fares change with the date and the remaining seats.
